WD My Book 6Tb - External Storage - 524 Mb used of 5.46 TB

Hullo,

I have just connected a brand new WD My Book 6TB to a Linksys EA6500 router as an external storage drive.

Before I have deleted all the (visible) items on the drive.

To my suprise I find the following info (Linksys External Storage):

524 Mb used of 5.46 TB

A half of TB is a lot of space! Does the WD My Book stores any special data?

What could be the solution to have a maximum available storage capacity?

Thank you in advance for any helpful piece of advice.

PS

One more question:

I have created two Shares. Each of them has $RECYCLE.BIN and cache subfolder.

I have tried to change the propriety of them to Hidden - no effect at all.

How can I get rid of the two subfolders mentioned above (I mean hide them)?

Hello GThib, do you mean 524GB? Also do you have the option to show hidden files and folders enabled?

I meant 524 MB not GB.

I have deleted RECYCLE.BIN content and redused the volum used to 250 Mb.

As far as Hidden option is concerned Do not show… option IS enabled.

I have noticed that option Hidden (via properies - right click) is NOT kept. The box Hidden from checked reverts to empty one (not checked).

Thank you for your response.

524 Mb is not about half TB… it’s about half a Gigabyte (GB)… which is not a lot of space (you could burn 524 Mb on a CD-R and still have space left over)

Yes indeed, you are perfectly right.

It was my misperception probably caused by my bad experience with WD product.

Any idea of hiding $RECYCLE.BIN and cache folders?

no, because it’s never bothered me

there are more important things in life to worry about than a couple a cache folders and a recycle.bin on a external hdd

as long as my data is there … then, that’s all i care about
