WD My Book - 3TB - Not Detected

Hello,

I have a brand new out of the box 3TB WD My Book. I pluged it into one Windows 7 (Dell) computer and it saw the drive, installed the drivers and I ran the backup. However, I did the exact same thing to another Windows 7 (HP) computer and while I see the drive on the “Devices and Drivers” page, it doesn’t actually let me create a backup.

When I try it says “No Writable Partition found”. I have searched the forums for the not detected issue, but I have not found a solution. This is an out of the box backup, on a good plug outlet and a brand new USB cord. I am somewhat techi, but it’s my wifes computer and I don’t want to mess with the drivers and cause other problems for her system.

I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

“No writable partition” means WD SmartWare is not detecting your hard drive. Is the unit password-protected? If so, you will need to unlock it before you can use it.
