Which firmware you got running is usually making things easier

QPEL (Quarter Pixel)

Not unusual with compatibility issues  with hardware players

GMC (Global Motion Compensation)

Never managed to get my wdtv gen 1 to play any media really smooth

with GMC above 1 waypoint (if played at all)

I would suggest you re-encode/rip these movies with GMC and QPEL disabled

I am using the latest firmware for the gen 1, (1.01.03 or somthing like that too lazy to check) does gen 2 have these problems?..

Im trying to avoid re encoding them it takes forever…because it isnt just one thing its a whole series… :frowning: … unless you know of an encoder that only changes those values and goes really quick… im talking less then 5 minutes per video

but thanks for the responce… somtimes i just think they should put vlc on the **bleep** thing and call it a day lol

AFAIK it’s the same with Gen 2, acctually it seems to be quite common with most

hardware mediaplayers. If you’re considering buying another mediaplayer, google

for “ gmc qpel” and try not to cry

GMC/QPEL is more than just a flag you can change, it will require reencoding of the video stream

VLC on the WDTV… Hahaha, that was really funny :smileyvery-happy:
