WD Live TV can't read WD Mybook Harddisk

I have just got a new WD Live for 2 weeks now to replace my old media player. Had my WD Mybook Essential 1TB plugged in and happily assessing all my movies and music and then it suddenly died on me. It stopped reading the harddisk. No amount of device reset and unplug/plug could do anything. Just asking me to define the local storage. The harddisk does not flash but have a steady light on.

Test your harddisk on the pc for errors…

I hav the same problem - WD Live TV can’t read intrnal hard disk.  I test the hard disk in a computer and it is working.  What is the possible problem?

Do you have the same hard disc and did it work and then stop like the original poster.

Are you using the rear USB port on the WD TV Live?  The rear port will very often cause all sorts of problems no matter what drive you have hooked up.  Use the front USB port.  This is a very well known and documented problem that needs to be posted at the end of nearly every thread on this board.

For more info, see this thread:

USB Port Issues

Western Digital obviously knows about the problem because it is so severe.  It has been around for a LONG time also so it’s pretty obvious that they can’t fix it with a simple firmware update.
