WD Gold sleep, noise and spin-up time

Hi,

I have 2 new WD Gold drives (2TB each) running in mirrored mode under Win 10 Storage Spaces. These drives are used for long term safe storage and for the OS I am using a SSD.

The issue is that these Gold drives are getting into sleep mode every few minutes, even if am using the performance mode and “hdd sleep: never” under power management settings. In BIOS I don’t see any setting.

When the drives are getting out of sleep I can hear a faint sound (like a click, but not the clicks you hear when the drive is bad) and maybe the spin-up sound. The smart value for spin-up time is around 3800, but seems to have increased.

What do you think? Is ok for Gold drives to get into sleep like that?

Thanks!

Hello,

I recommend you contact support for assistance with this.

I’ve done this, but they have suggested me RMA without any good explanation. For me, it seems that the HDDs are working good excepting the sleep issue. The sound was not explained, considering that is not that “click” noise. It might be a software issue in the end…
