i can’t update the firmware of my new passport slim 1TB. other WD softwares such as WD drive utilities and WD security are able to detect this drive. please help.
If the drive is working without problems I would avoid firmware updates. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it is sometimes the best policy.
If the drive was produced after the latest firmware release then it won’t be recognized by the update utility until a newer revision is released.

not really. Updates are issued because something is broken. It may be a feature you don’t use and hence you think its not broken for you, but it may be for someone else.
Unfortunately with these firmware there is no way to reset if there is a problem. Many people have problems with the firmware updates and wind up with a bricked drive for a variety of reasons. Many of those people were doing the update simply because it was available not because they were having issues. That’s why I go with if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
