The drives are visible and accessible, but when I update files on my computer the external drive does not do the updates.

The WD files are there, visible, but when I update my file on my C: drive it does not update the WD external file.
Which WD files are you saying? Are you trying to update the device firmware or the WD Discovery/Security/Utilities software?

Could you please explain from where you are trying to update the drive? Are you trying to update it from the device manager?
I have a new computer and I have been trying to connect the WD External drive to the new computer. When it was on the old computer, the external drive hard drive updated the files automatically. It is no longer doing that.
Try updating your external drive drivers in your new computer and check if that works. Further, you can also try the below methods to fix the issue:
Method 1: Update Device Driver
Method 2: Rollback Device Driver
Method 3: Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter
Method 4: Uninstall then Re-install Device Driver
Method 5: Uninstall Windows Update
