WD external hard drive corrupted after improper removal

I unplugged my WD drive without ejecting it, and now some files cannot be opened.

How can I repair it? Or can I recover these files by using a data recovery tool?

There are many options online, including Wondershare Recoverit, MiniTool Power Data Recovery, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, Recuva, and Disk Drill. Which one should I choose?

It is recommended not to write new data to the hard disk first. You can reconnect the computer to see if it can be accessed normally, or run the system’s built-in disk check tool to try to repair it.
If you still cannot restore normal access, you can consider using data recovery software to restore your data.
PS: I have only used EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard and MiniTool Power Data Recovery, and they both performed pretty well overall.

Thanks for the advice. I won’t write any new data to this external hard drive until I recover everything from it. I’ll give EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard and MiniTool Power Data Recovery a try, and I really hope I can get all my data back.

If the files are still there but won’t open then they may be corrupted and a recovery tool cannot always repair them. I would first copy anything you can still access then run chkdsk to check the drive. If files are missing or unreadable stop using the drive and try a recovery tool. Stellar Data Recovery is a good option because it handles file system issues well and gives you a preview before recovery.

Thank you for the helpful advice and the recommendation. I’ll also look into Stellar Data Recovery if needed. Appreciate your guidance!
