WD Essential USB Passport Tranfer rate in USB 2.0 ports

Hi,

I just bought a 500 GB External Hard disk two days back.

I could only transfer files at the rate of 25 mb/s on USB 2.0 ports.

It is said that it could transfer at the speed of 450 mb/s for 2.0 and 1 GB for 3.0 ports in the specification.

I am using Windows 7 Home basic Os. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 2 Ghz speed and 2 GB RAM.

Can anyone please tell me why the transfer rate is so low?

25mb/s is just about the normal transfer rate for USB 2.0.

Hello

The 480mb/s is the top transfer rate it does not mean it will transfer at that rate all the time. There 25MB/s is normal.
