I have bought a new WD Elements Portable 4TB with USB 3.0 and found that at times it is impossible to unmount the drive with either Windows Safe Removal function or 3rd party solutions. The most weird part is that this happens with 100% empty drive and no apparent programs accessing it. Windows Indexing is also switched off for this drive… Though this problem happens occasionally I assume there would be a situation when i have 100000 programs running and have to shut down the computer just because my external HHD wont unmount . How to deal with these situations ? How to find a program that holds the drive ? Thank you for your time in advance.
