WD Elements has stopped working

i have owned my wd elements ext hdd for 2 years had no problem but recently it has stopped working some days my laptop which is an Acer Aspire 7730 recently upgraded OS to windows 7 32 bit 4GB of ram.

when it recognises the drive the light doesnt flash but doesnt come up in my computer but only comes up in disk management when i try to initialize the drive it comes up with an I/O device error when i try to format it freezes my laptop up.

and when i plug the usb in and its not recognised the light just keeps on flashing even when its unplugged through usb

i have tried test disk and other software but it just freezes up and ive scanned the drive but it sais that it has to many bad sectors

has any one got any ideas of anything i can possibly do

try test disk again and just recover your important file, trust me its about to fail and send it for warranty. This is my third WD that displayed similar behavior and died eventually, your lucky if it still under warranty. Just check the serial number and enter it on their website if it is still replaceable. It took me three ext hd to be convince that WD life expectancy is less than 4 years… SN WCAV50665915915 1TB(dedicated for PVR, I don’t move it and it just died…)
