Wd elements goes not responding when files are opened

when i try to open files in my drive it just goes not responding.Also windows 8.1 suggests to scan and fix the drive for errors.when i tried data life guard it said too many sector failures.Is there any way that I can backup my data and fix the error??

Hello,

Are you using a portable version or desktop version on the WD Elements? If possible, try using the drive with a different USB cable. If it’s a desktop version, make sure that the unit is connected to the wall outlet and try using a different computer.

I’m using a portable version.trying what all you have mentioned didn’t work.
