My 2 month old WD Elements 5TB which worked well until now is marked ‘read only’ by the operating system (which is Windows 10 on a Dell Optiplex 9020.) It reads fine and I am migrating data off it OK. It is full of backup files which could probably reveal useful data to a hacker.
I am told it is out of warrantee.
Can anyone offer a solution which does not include use of a hammer or blowtorch or even bring the disk back to full functionality?

The read only attribute was set for this drive. Used ‘cmd’ - ‘diskpart’ to reset it as per above link.
