WD ELEMENT 1TB HDD is not reading

My WD element 1 TB is not reading. I bought it long time back and it was working fine. I tried to replace the cable but it is not available anywhere near me. What should i do?

Before you assume it’s dead, plug it into another PC to rule out a port issue, then open Disk Management by right clicking Start and see if the drive shows up there without a letter assigned. A lot of times WD Elements drives are detected but just need a drive letter added. Also try a different USB port on the back of the computer since front ports can underpower external drives. If you hear clicking or it spins up and disappears, that points to hardware trouble. The cable is a standard USB 3.0 Micro B cable so you can order a generic one online, it does not have to be WD branded. If the data is important and the drive shows up but won’t open, avoid formatting it and consider data recovery software like Stellar.
