WD Drive Manager is causing traffic - why?

I see traffic when WD Drive Manager is running, why?

I’m not accessing the drive and backup is turned off (even stopped the backup service).

This is the traffic with WD Drive Manger running:

And this is traffic when the service is stopped:

The Drive Manager may contact WD’s site in order to verify if updates are available.

If this was once a day, that would make sense, every few seconds, that would be very BAD and totally unnecessary!

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

I was hoping someone in this forum could confirm/deny seeing the same behavior.

In my experience support has not been helpful, all they ever suggest was to reinstall the software.

This is a clean install on a brand new Win 8.1 pro system.

The ONLY reason I have the software installed is so I can use the hardware encryption (unfortunately I got to install the useless backup software as part of that that). As I and many others have noted that the backup software is hog on memory and processing power and not needed with a new operating system that has file history build in).

I have the exact same problem. Where is the solution?
