WD Discovery says no network devices were discovered

When I first bought this ShareSpace it was AWESOME! It backed up all my files automatically for me all the time.  Then we moved and I tried plugging it back in and it no longer worked.  So I tried do the factory reset option in the menu and it reformatted the drives (18hrs)…but now it won’t recognize the ShareSpace at all.  The power light and all 4 hard drives lights on the front just continually blink fastly, they don’t stay solid.  Does anyone have any suggestions?!

This can be due to Overheating of the External drive. And also try to ping the drive through the CMD prompt i,e.

ping WDsharespace Check if your getting any response for it.

I had to reinstall my OS on my Windows machine, I opted for Windows 7.  I dutifully downloaded the updated Backup and Discovery software from the restricted and non-restricted sites.  The WD Discovery tool indicates it can not see my network (web surfing right now)…  “No Network Devices were discovered”.  Also, I have another laptop (Mac) that  can see the WD ShareSpace (NAS) I have.  My network is fine and the NAS is fine, the onto chanced variables are the Windows 7 install and the new WD Software installed.

So, this has more to do with the WIndows 7 or the new WD Discovery software I downloaded.

Any ideas for making this work?

Sell your Windows machine. Buy Parallels Destop. Install Windows 7 on your Mac. Done. Problem solved.

Have you tried to reach the ShareSpace web interface with your browser?

wdsharespace.local

Network and internet are different protocols. So that you can surf but desn’t have a network connection. Do you have a router or switch in between? Try to connect the ShareSpace directly to your machine using a ethernet cable. So you can test where the failure is.

There are so many possibilities.

IT’s Windows firewall whos blokking discovery software, i had the same problem on my lapptopp with win7

We have similar issue (as subject sais) but unfortunatelly we have no response from WD support the last 4 days.

Our analysis is as below. Any idea what to do ???

We have done a reset to factory defaults (after backing up our data)

The system did recover from factory reset after more than half a day and we have seen that it was empty as expected.
Before adding our data again into it we did a firmware upgrade from 2.2.8 to 2.2.9.

Firmware upgrade program run successfully (SUCCESS: System is rebooting please wait). System did reboot and the status is:
-info- We are running 2 different PCs using Windows XP professional SP3 with and without windows firewall
-info- Network cables and rest of equipment parts are tested ok

– We cannot find drive to previously assigned IP (192.168.2.103) !!
– We do not have access to the web Network Storage Manager !!
– We do not have access to \wdsharespace (message: no network provider accepted the given network path) !!
– We do not have access to \192.168.2.103 (message: no network provider accepted the given network path) !!
– WD Discovery [1.80 (1035.003) or 1.70 (1018.002)] cannot find Network device =>”No Network Devices were discovered – please be sure your device is powered on and properly connected to the Local Area Network” (even though no firewall is blocking WD Discovery) when device is connected to Ethernet LAN
– WD Discovery [1.80 (1035.003) or 1.70 (1018.002)] cannot find Network device =>”No Network Devices were discovered – please be sure your device is powered on and properly connected to the Local Area Network” (even though no firewall is blocking WD Discovery) when device is connected directly to pc (network connection status is limited or no connectivity providing to PC IP 169.254.50.4, or 169.253.121.81 and subnet 255.255.0.0)
– Mionet Web utility seems to recognize that the device is online or offline; however it has the old share names available (before factory defaults) and is not possible to connect to them (Message: The selected resource did not respond. The resource may be busy). When we disconnect network cable Mionet Web shows shares unavailable
– Reset button does not seems to work (even though we were waiting for more than 30 seconds pressing it)
– Power off button does not work (even though we were waiting for more than 10 seconds pressing it)

After cutting power off and putting back on we have the following led indication:
While booting up:
– Power led is green
– hdd leds are orange (no flashing)
– Ethernet (front) led is blue flashing green from time to time
– Other indicators are blue
– Does not seems to read data
After finishing boot:
– Power led goes off
– 4 hdd leds are on and stable to Green
– Ethernet (front) led is flashing green from time to time
– Other indicators are off

Any idea what to do ???

Thanks

Aris
