WD Desktop 4tb new, No light, Have to unplug to restart computer

New WD My Book 4tb Desktop. Windows 10, Backs up ok. Only thing I am having to unplug USB cable before restarting computer or it will not reboot. After restarting the computer and plugging back the USB everything works. Don’t know if something is wrong with the new hard drive or something in my computer controlling my USB ports… Confused!
