WD Caviar, 640GB, drive requires a SATA interface

RE: Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, This drive requires a SATA interface

I purchased the Hard Drive. But didn’t purchase the SATA interface cable. What type of SATA interface should I buy? Is it the Serial ATA/150? Or are there faster connections? Do I need to buy a separate cable for “Power”, too?

Thank you.

Check whether your PSU has a SATA power cable already; if not, you will need to get a molex-to-sata power adapter. As for SATA cable - any of them will do, as they’re no different.

For reference I’ve included the wikipedia URLs with what the connectors look like. Given that you’re asking this question I’m assuming you don’t know what they look like

Almost all new power supplies should have some of both. If you’re lacking the SATA power then as the previous poster said you can pick one up fairly easily. Radio Shack or Best Buy may have them or a local computer shop. Worst case order one from Newegg.

Thank you for the information!
