WD Blue 4TB for storing data

I want to buy another WD drive for storing videos, ebooks, and some other files on my computer. Additionally, I am learning video editing now, so I also need to store some video clips. But I am hesitant in choosing between a 4TB internal drive and a portable drive.

Current Storage: 1TB SSD + 512 GB HDD(old drive from my all-in-one PC)

Can someone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance.

You should look at the WD Red drives for NAS and the External Drives they have.

I have two WDMYCLOUDS. My older one has four TBs and the 2nd generation has three TBs. I have a lot of video that I have saved on them.

Windows April updates caused both my desktop and laptop running Windows 11 Pro to go into a loop trying to start up. I carried my desktop to Best Buy for them to get back up and running and I was able to get the laptop back up running after a lot of work. My backups on my storage drives are what has helped my get both of them back up with all data and apps on them.

Go with the 4TB internal drive. Since you’re learning video editing you’ll appreciate the faster and more stable performance for storing raw clips and working files. Portable drives are great for backups and travel but editing directly from one can feel sluggish over time. Your current 512GB HDD is old enough that I wouldn’t trust it for important footage long term so use the new 4TB as your main storage and keep your SSD for Windows and active editing projects.

Thanks. I will look into WD Red drives and consider whether to purchase one.

Thank you. I will consider to replacing the old HDD.

I found the WD blue disks to not last long in my studio. The Red disks are much more reliable. I keep hard disks in USB enclosures which makes it easier to manage.

I found with modern hard disks that duplicate backups are easy,
