Is the WD Black P10 Gaming external hard drive compatible with Usb port 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A. Thanks…
Yes… I have mine plugged into my USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type A which supports up to 10 Gbps and it is backwards compatible to USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 with maximum of 5 Gbps. I’m using it there because it’s the only port the short 18 inch cable can reach with the drive laying on my desk next to my PC. I only use it for data backups and disconnect it after I’m done. As you can see in this chart the USB version numbers were re-branded which was confusing to me at first until I read more up on it and saw this chart. USB 3.0 is the same as USB 3.1 Gen 1 for example.
Yes, they are compatible. The WD Black P10 uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface (which is backward compatible with USB 3.0 / USB 2.0), while your device uses a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A interface. Both are based on the same 5Gbps transmission standard.
