WD Black 6TB on mac not showing up on restart, but does show up from cold start

Hi

I needed to replace my backup drives with something bigger. I added the 6TB black in place of a 2TB version. Now, when I restart, then drive does not show up. It will however show up if I just down my machine then start up.

Is there any setting on the mac that I can add to make it show up on restart as well? I’ve run just about ever test I can think of, and the drive that was in it’s place before showed up fine so I know it’s not the connection.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I only have a few days left to exchange the drive if it’s defective.
