WD Anywhere cannot see local files

I’ve had this happen twice now, once on a Win7 laptop (on wifi) and today on an XP prof desktop (ethernet).  Each time it follows a forced shut-down of the device.

At the next startup WD Anywhere says ‘No backup plans found’.  I know I can reactive the backup plan from the version on the WD storage device - but this takes ages to check through every file.  Surely there should be a way of re-pointing WD Anywhere at the local files?
