WD Anywhere Backup, Drive Manager speed differences between versions/machines

I have a WD Passport Elite 500GB USB drive that I use on 2 systems.

A new system is the Dell Latitude E6410 with i3 and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I installed WD Drive Manager 2.115 and WD Anywhere Backup 4.50.6554. I did an initial backup of about 18GB in a couple hours or less. I was happy with that speed.

My older system is a Dell XPS 410 running XP Pro. It has WD Drive Manager 2.111 and WD Anywhere Backup version 4.00.5484. I’d doing an initial backup and after a couple hours it’s 375 MB into it. I also tried deleting files from the XP machine and it too was very slow (e.g. half hour to delete about 50 GB).

Is the difference all related to the speed of the computer or is some related to the WD software versions? Should I update the software on the XP machine? Will it make much difference?

And if I update the software, any caveats about doing so? Thanks.

Yes, the speed of the computer can affect the speed of the backup.  WD Anywhere Backup is doing a process of indexing while it’s backing up and that can use a lot of resources.
