WD Access Does Nothing

I am setting up a MyCloud device for the first time - Windows 10 PC. All is working correctly and I am currently copying files to it.

I have downloaded and installed WD Access, which appeared to complete correctly.

Clicking on the WD Access icon does nothing, and nor does running it as admin, though Windows 10 correctly asks if I want it to change files on my PC. WDAppManager shows up in Task Manager. I have killed it in task manager and re-started it - no difference

Any ideas?

Try WDQuickview instead

OK, thanks for the suggestion, but same result with WDQuickview !

Must be something strange about my (HP) PC, but no idea what!!

Actually, all I am really concerned with is how to power the MyCloud unit down if I ever need to. The Web Console does not appear to provide a power down function, which is a really strange omission.

This has been discussed many times in this forum. You can do a search, using the magnifying glass in the upper right corner.

Missing shutdown button and no Hibernate option is one result of the search.

This will sound stupid but are you doing a RIGHT click on the icon?

As the previous person indicated there are numerous prior discussions on the issue of how to shut down a gen 2 single bay My Cloud which no longer has the shutdown / hibernate option visible in the My Cloud Dashboard. They can be found using the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right.

WD even has a Knowledgebase article dealing with the shutdown issue on those My Cloud units that are missing the shutdown / hibernate option.

Fair question but, right click, double click, execute from the .EXE itself. No reaction, but WD App Manager shows up in task manager.

Appreciate the comment, but only information I have found so far relates to multi bay devices. Otherwise, the instructions imply using either WD Quick View, WD App Manager, neither of which work. Nor do I wish to tangle with SSH!

So how come WD are issuing software that just does not work,!

A quick search for “shutdown” turns up numerous past discussions.

There are several options. One is to use SSH, another is to use the browser trick some have mentioned like in the following post:

WD Access is working on my end in Windows 10 (with a first gen single bay My Cloud).

Have you let WD Access through the firewall on Windows 10? Upon clicking the Access icon after installing it I got a popup indicating I had to grant access through the Windows 10 firewall.

Yes, the first time I installed it it asked for that, and I did.
Curiously, after uninstalling and then re-installing, it did not ask the question again.

Not able to post link in the answer so follow this link for the easy browser shut down instructions

You are a star! That worked.
Many thanks
