WD 650Gb 2.5 drive

Removed laptop hard drive and connected to SATA external cable. Drive made clicking sound when in laptop and continues to do so in SATA carrier.

My recovery software does not see the drive attached. Windows 7 does not see the drive attached.

Trying to recovery user data.

Suggestions?

See if you can access the drive with one of these-

http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ (use the Linux boot option, default settings, Parted Magic.)
