I am stying to format  a WD 3T MyBook external drive.  The Windows Formatter has stalled at less than 10%.  This is after correcting some file system errors.  Can I stop the formatting?  Will stopping ruin the drive?  I’d like to retry the formatting with a somewhat different routine using the  Disk Management. utility?

Any other suggestions about how to solve the problem other than the one outlined above, assuming it is ok to stop the stalled format?

Stopping the format will not damage the drive at all.  You may try to reformat it from another computer, and also test the drive for errors using DLG:  How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows
