WD 2TB Elements not detected

Hello everyone,

I’m doing some verification for the WD Elements 2TB external that just came in today.

Ran into issues with my laptop- my Win10 laptop just could not detect the drive at all.
Suspect my drive could be fake, so did some testing.

Plugged into my Intel PC box, and it ran fine.
Downloaded WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool, tried Quick Scanning it, but it always crash.

I ran CrystalDiskInfo, and here’s the data-

Here’s info from Disk Management- already formatted in exFAT curiously

The HDD seems to be Hitachi drive instead- is that usual for WD?
What other tests I could try to verify if this thing’s fake?

Many thanks for any help given.

Managed to get Data Lifeguard running:

Running full diagnostics:

Continuation:

Looks pretty suspect to me …

The CrystalDiskInfo Serial Number of the drive looks nothing like a WD Serial Number (Google Images … WD Hard Drive Serial Numbers and you’ll see what i mean)

And the Big Alarm Bells Ringing saying it’s an “Hitchaci” drive when it should start with WDC XXXXXXXXXX

And … for WD Diagnostics to not even Report is Serial Number and just have a blank field

I would almost 100% suspect it’s Not Genuine WD Product you bought.

More like someone removed the original WD Hard Drive from the Elements Enclosure and put a Hitachi Hard Drive in there … and probably a Faulty One, going by the trouble you’re having with it.

Ebay Special ? … Price Too Good to be True ?

Hi Joey,

Yeah, bought it at a price that seems too good to be true.

Oh well, it works for now- probably will use it for low priority, non important items in case it blows up on me.
