WD 2.0TB WD20EARS Unable to partition/format in OSX Drive Utility

i can not for the life of me get this drive to work

it was purchased on thursday and since then i have tried a number of times

but failed on each attempt! I read that the drive is native to OSX and ive also read the guide

on the tech page 'not that i needed to!

Each time i try to partition/format the drive to mac os extended (journaled)

on the GUID Partition table it gets to around 52% then locks up for about 15 minutes

before showing a failed error message and then auto dis-mounting.

i looked through google and have noticed that this is a common occurrence

although it is stated that these drive are native.

any futher assistance would be really appreciated

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

WD told me to return the HD to the retailer

who then sent me another one out after testing the drive!

I decided to use Drive Genius 3 to initialize, partition and format the drive

this time around instead of OSX own Disk Utility. It took about 30 seconds and was

ready. Cloned my old OS Drive to it then ran verify/repair permissions followed by

resetting the primary OS HD in “startup Disk” Preferences.

It’s all good now.
