WD 1Terabyte - All Files Just Disappeared

I had just installed Win 7-64bit, I was putting rebooting in safe mode but did no go through.  when it booted up, all the files in the external WD disk are all gone. I never had deleted or removed any parition, I even had an application from this ext-hd.  Now when window explorer opens it says that it needed to be formatted to be useful.

Is there a way to fix this?

Hello,

During the Windows installation process the external drive was connected to the computer? Or during the safe mode booting? 

It seems to me your drive is corrupt, the only way to make the unit fully operational again is formatting or writing zeroes to the drive.

Yes, the ext drive was connected when I was trying to boot in safe mode.

The ext drive can not be detected and windows pop up windows shows that it needed to be reformated to use it.  :frowning:

What do you mean “writing zeros” to the drive?  is this the same as reformatting?
