Warranty's effect after bringing the product to foreign country

Hi, I am considering buying a HDD WD 1TB in Thailand since I’m staying here for a while and the price is cheaper than in my next working destination, Japan. The warranty of the product, however, seems to apply only in Thailand, and I would only able to get my product fixed 1 time if asking the Japan’s WD branch, and future malfunctions mean I have to send my product back to Thailand even with a 3 years warranty period. At least, that is what I infer from a “confusing” conversation with local WD and retailer staffs. Have anyone got their product replaced in foreign countries? Any opinion, experience in this matter?

Hello,

Please note that the warranty may vary depending on the region that the product was purchased. For that reason, the product will need to be sent back to the correct region.

But what is the WD’s definition of region? According to the company’s “Warranty Policy”, Asia Pacific countries are counted as one region, thus the products from Thailand should have the same “rights” as Japanese WD product in Japan??
