How do WD manage their quality control so that drives die just after the warranty expires?
The warranty on my newest My Book expired on June 23, 2015.
4 days ago, while archiving to it, the drive stopped working.
Now when I plug it into the power source, if I listen carefully I can about 7 tings followed by a couple of buzzes. The tings and buzzes repeat.
When I plug the drive into a computer I get the message that the device plugged into the USB port is not being recognised.
My drive contained nearly 3TB of archived material.
I am tempted to give the drive a vigorous shake, but people tell me that that is not a good idea.
Has anyone any better ideas?
Have people with similar vintage My Books had the same problem?
