Warranty expires, 2 weeks later drive ALSO expires

How do WD manage their quality control so that drives die just after the warranty expires?

The warranty on my newest My Book expired on June 23, 2015.

4 days ago, while archiving to it, the drive stopped working.

Now when I plug it into the power source, if I listen carefully I can about 7 tings followed by a couple of buzzes.   The tings and buzzes repeat.

When I plug the drive into a computer I get the message that the device plugged into the USB port is not being recognised.

My drive contained nearly 3TB of archived material.

I am tempted to give the drive a vigorous shake, but people tell me that that is not a good idea.

Has anyone any better ideas?

Have people with similar vintage My Books had the same problem?

Hi there, I’m sorry to read that you are unable to access the information on your drive. Have you tried connecting the drive using a different power cable and a different USB cable?
