Virtual CD drive created- do not want it

MY Passport 4T was working fine for a few weeks. All of a sudden I get an error message stating:

" E:/Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and try again."

WD created a virtual CD drive E on my PC. Why? it is screwing up my entire system and I didn’t want it or ask for it, it just appeared after several weeks. How to I get rid of it? Why was it created?
