Video playback stalling on new wd black 10 tb

Built a new pc with 2 new 10 tb black drives. In the new pc i installed my 2 older wd 4 tb blue drives as well. The older drives play the same video files flawlessly the new drives stall during playback constantly despite using Acronis cloning software. Beyond frustrated at this point. Have the latest bios, window 11, chipset and gpu updates and drivers. Have adjusted spin down options and hardware acceleration. Checked the bios settings. The new black drives are on their own separate power cables from a new 1300w psu. Specs- Ryzen 9 9950x, Asus b850 e tuf gaming motherboard, 2x32 gb ddr5 and Asus tuf 5060 ti 16 gb gpu. Yet no joy. Hard to believe I got 2 bad drives. WTF.

I would not assume two bad drives right away. I have seen new high capacity drives behave weird with caching, firmware, or Windows indexing in the background. If the old drives play fine, I would start suspecting drive settings or something Windows is doing specifically to the new disks.

That’s just it. I don’t believe both drives are bad. I have covered every possible setting, driver and update I can think of or google. New sata cables. Tried different sata ports. Yet I can’t even play a movie off them without multiple dropouts. Was hoping for some insight to something I missed from the experts here.

Can you run a read benchmark in HD Tune? The graph should be a monotonically decreasing curve. If there are periodic dips, then that could point to interference from some background task.

Check that the 10TB drives are on the AMD chipset SATA ports, running in AHCI mode, with write caching enabled. Make sure they’re initialized as GPT and not carrying over bad partition alignment from the clone. Try copying a large video file fresh instead of using the cloned data to see if playback improves, that’ll tell you if it’s a cloning issue not bad drives.

Most cases are caused by driver/controller config or cloning alignment, not bad drives.

I suggest a clean install of Windows
