It’s ridiculous.
One hour ago I’ve updated the firmware of my WD My book Edition I and now it’s bricked.
The light is always on at the bottom of the box.
The LAN is on (green light) but it has no functionality.
My external disk is not working anymore.
… And NOW I read that A LOT of people has the same problem with the last firmware SINCE 20 AUGUST.
And none of the WD removed the faulty firmware.
I repeat: it’s ridiculous! Whatt kind of support is this?!
I’ve installed the firmware today and now my unit is a brick with a light always on for the night.
I’ve read that I shoud send back my unit for a RMA.
Incredible! You have broken my unit, and I have to send it back to you.
Please give us an answer about our problem…
Thanks
Dan (very angry)

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email. They may be able to help you.

Bill,
My unit is out of warranty and cannot be RMA’d.
My NAS is almost full and I wish not to lose those files.
Calling the 800 number does nothing for me, I have several hours on this forum & on the phone with support.
I know its bricked I dont need 5 opinions on it.
What we do need though bill is a solution to get this NAS working again…
Do you think you could accomplish something like that, or perhaps get someone here that could?
Also, if I have a support ticket open on an account thats been banned, are they able to get back to me?
Please advise?

Actually, your email was never banned, just your username. And it didn’t affected anything with support, just forum login.

“What happened?!”
I’m gonna tell you again:
It seems that WD has released a faulty firmware that bricked a lot of drives (after the installation and the reboot the drive is dead: light on on the bottom side and nothing more).
Now the firmware is not online anymore (Ohh! Maybe because is it faulty?!").
But a lot of us has a bricked WD mybook.
The support suggest us to send the drive to RMA and they will return back a new ones.
UNFORTUNATELY I should pay the sending cost.
UNFORTUNATELY into the disk I have private company documents and data that I cannot send to anyone…
So… I have to own this %$&%$ disk bricked.
Why? Because the WD released a faulty firmware. I cannot send the bricked drive to RMA.
Exists Any Recovery Procedure?
No one answer. Of course.
This is what happened to us.
