I bought this drive just over 3 years ago and according to the serial number on the drive it is still under warranty.

What are this company thoughts on me sending the drive back to them and my data recovered?

I will not be pleased if they can’t do anything for me as I have lost my photos and other important data.

I believe if you read the warranty information you’ll see that it doesn’t cover any lost data – WD will just replace the drive.  I think that’s standard with any drive manufacturer.

You’d need to go to a data recovery firm first, yourself, before sending the drive back under RMA.

They do suggest, in numerous places, for valuable data to be backed up and not trusted to any one drive.
