Using Passport in Car USB port

I purchased MY Passport 256Gb drive mainly to use in my car and motorbike USB connection. But neither system recognises my device. Drive works perfectly on my PC & Mac.
Any ideas, or is it just a no no.

check what Format your car and motorbike support eg. older devices may only support FAT32 and not NTFS or exFAT

if that “checks out” … then check the PartitionTable … new WD Hard drives are partitioned GPT (GUID Partition Table)

older devices may only support MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table.

The limitation with MBR is the Maximum partition size of 2TB … but that won’t be a problem if your new My Passport is only 256GB.

That did it, thanks. Although did have to search around for a formatter to do it. Thanks for quick replay.

If you use Windows, it comes with a drive manager where you can format and partition hard drives.

Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
