Using Network shares vs USB drives

hi,

I’m looking at purchasing a WDHDTV live box, but am intending to store media on a NAS network access storage device. I have a couple of questions for you guys:

Do I need to have a USB drive connected to the WDTV?

Can the device stream content directly from network shares?

What would be the downsides of this approach? It seems that a lot of the how-to materials focus on USB drives.

You don’t need a USB drive, you can stream from the network also.  Only downside I know of right now is the double thumbnail issue which is being fixed by WD atm.

Do I need to have a USB drive connected to the WDTV?

No, my WDTV box is connected to my network via ethernet cable.

Can the device stream content directly from network shares?

Yes, I am streaming all my movies from my NAS network shared drive.

I only have had the WDTV box for a week and I have have not recognized any downsides.
