For a while I didn’t know why my new drive showed a red LED below it on my NAS, while the drive seemed to work fine and pass all tests. I didn’t know I needed to manually add it to my JBOD setup. I figured it would automatically get added, or at least I would be prompted to do something about the new drive if needed, but there were no messages on what was wrong.
When new drives are added that need to be set up on JBOD / RAID, there should be a prompt telling the user he/she needs to do that. There should also be a message on the dashboard saying that the red LED under the drive is because it hasn’t been added to the array yet, and direct the user to do so.
