Use My Passport/Ultra as bootable backup drive - Win 10

Does anyone have experience using a My Passport Ultra drive (5TB on one machine 2 TB non-ultra on another) as bootable backup drives? We are considering using a drive for this purpose, leaving the unused space unallocated when the bootable backup is created and then formatting it as a data storage volume. We would be grateful to learn what others who have tried something similar may have experienced.

Thank you

Windows To Go is a feature that enables booting from a USB-connected external drive on PCs. Windows To Go is removed in Windows 10, version 2004 and later operating systems. The feature does not support feature updates and therefore does not enable you to stay current. It also requires a specific type of USB that is no longer supported by many hard drives.
