Use a HC550 18To in external enclosure?

Hello,

I would like to know if I can put an 18TB HC550 (SATA) in an external case ? This one from StarTech (USB 3.1 (10Gbps) Enclosure for 3.5” SATA - External Drive Enclosures | StarTech.com)

Also, should I choose a SE or TCG model (TCG = SED?) ?

Thank you in advance, cordially.

StarTech don’t even know … looking at the Q&A on the page you linked, they’ve tested a 14TB, but not a 18TB. Which they say “should” work.

I think the only way you’re gonna find out … is to buy it and test it.

Ask them (or find out) what their Return/Refund Policies are before buying it though, in case it doesn’t work.

Hello and thanks for your answer.

Depending on power consumption and capacity, I know I will have to buy to be safe.

But this kind of hard drive for servers and data centers still works in an external enclosure?

And between a SE, SED or TGC drive, which one to choose for external use?
