USB Timeout issue and Fully reformat as new 3Tb MyBook?

Hi guys

I have two issues:

TIMEOUT

The first seems to be a timing out of the link to the MyBook 3Tb , meaning that left on for long period overnight or more that I cannot be sure a long copy has been completed without error.

The firmware seems to be the current one.

COMPLETELY RE-FORMAT AS NEW (Not using Quick Formatter)

(As a precaution I have I backed up all my MyBook 3Tb data on another drive temporarily.)

I have successfully carried out a Quick Format using WD Quick Formatter.

It got me think though whether - and how - I could reformat the whole of the user portion of the MyBook 3Tb  drive - but I am not sure about whether there are any WD hidden  partitions.

I had in mind using Easus (free) to do this but I would welcome suggestions.

If the answer is 'yes you can do it ’ how do I go about it, because it is showing GPT in Easeus but also NTFS?

The objective is to ensure everything on the WD MyBook3Tb  is error free before copying my Archived files onto it. Ideally a 5-7 year lifespan hoped for.

NOTES:

Windows 7 and about to start on a new PC running Windows 8

I am not currently using WD backup software.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, if you have the My Book connected to a power strip, try connecting it directly to a wall socket. Also be sure to connect the My Book USB cable directly to the PC.
