The stock cable that came with my My Passport Ultra is starting to fray. Can I use any standard USB-C phone charging cable, or do I need a specific high-speed data cable to maintain transfer speeds?

I have found modern USB-C cables work at 40 gigabit with few problems. Avoid dollar store cables. I have some Essager cables from China which work great.
You don’t necessarily have to buy an official WD cable, but avoid using ones that are too cheap. It is recommended to choose a high-quality USB-C cable that supports the USB standard required by the hard drive.
