Urgent Help : My WD TV Live damage 1TB external HDD after 1.05.04 firmware update

Hi Guys.I want to share very complicated problem. After firmware update my external USB conncted HDD is started to file reading problem with PC and Laptop.When I connect to WD player there is no problem.I can watch my movies and acces to my other datas.But when I try this with other machines (PC or Laptop … etc) it doesn’t work and I cant acces to my files.

so I need urgent help .These are what I did with external HDD  :

1.When connect to PC via USB cable ; PC shows HDD but doesnt open .

2.I tried from Computer management and there was no type of file system on HDD like Fat or NTFS.

3.I tried XP disk check and fixing tool for HDD but it is not worked.

So now I have 1TB HDD only communcate with WD media player.

Help please.

Sounds like the partition table or file table got corrupted.

Did you remember to EJECT the drive before you disconnected it?

Unfortunately no.

I heard that 3 days ago.

How will I fix that problem ?

Well, it won’t fix your problem of a currently dead drive, but it should prevent it from happening in the first place.

Same problem, yesterday after firmware update, one of my 2 external HDD was completely damaged - all files lost…

I tried to recover data using  Ontrack software without success.

I have replaced the dead HDD with 2 TB new one and for sure

  • will disconnect all HDD drives before updating firmware next time

  • make backup of files as WD TV box is not reliable.

There is simply no way that a firwmare update permanently damaged a USB hard disk.

Corrupted the data?   Possibly.  Deleted the data?  Possibly.  

But permanently destroyed?   Huh uh.
