My photos are uploaded as it says in the settings: " in folders by year and month", but they are also duplicated on the root folder, and often within the same folder. This is annoying. Does somebody know why and how to prevent it

Yes, actually I only upload pictures taken with my cellphone and using the mobile app

I have a better alternative you may try. I always backup all my content stored on my memory card of mobile to similar folders on MyCloud. For this I use an app called foldersync. It is extremely versatile and carries out scheduled replication as configured. Hope this helps.
