Upgrade vsftpd?

So, I noticed that this device is running vsftpd. My question to all the nix savvy people…

  1. How can I check which version this is running and 

  2. How can I upgrade via SSH?

This would be of interest for me too. VSFTPD seems a simple enough FTP service. That conserns me is if dependancies are upgraded. Will that update break anything else?
