I am trying to access my passport external USB drive, but when I run the “unlock.exe” application, I get an error message stating: “The application has encountered and unexpected error and is now exiting”.
Will not work from any USB port or computer I have…
What do I do next? I require all of the information and files I have on the drive…
Also, what would happen if I “uninstall WD Smartware” from my drive? Is that a possible work around?

WD Smartware is not installed as software on the drive. There should be a folder WD Smartware.swstor on the drive. That is where the backup is saved.
I suggest you reinstall the WD Drive Utilities software from the downloads. If that does not help, then try downloading WD Smartware. There have been a lot of updates for the software, but they should still work.
The files should still be on your computer unless you deleted them. WD Smartware does not Move the files.
