Unable to navigate symbolic links

Anyone have a workaround?

I created a symbolic link to essentially join 2 HDDS into 1 but trying to navigate the symbolic link via the UI using samba just throws a “no video in this directory”  error (not the exact wording). No issues via Windows Explorer and other navifation methods, just the WD fails.,

Yeah, you can’t do this with the Live.

Have yo tried a HARD LINK instead of a symlink?  I don’t know if it will work or not, just curious…

Yes, I tried that. Unfortunately, you can’t create a hard link across drives.

This seems very strange to me. I was under the impression that this should be fine as it is handled at the OS level and should really be transparent to the WD.

I guess i can setup and try it on a real linux system to see if the behaviour is the same as it is opn the DNS323.

What OS is hosting the drives?

The DNS323 runs Linux as its underlying operating system.

Check this thread:

It’s doubtful you’ll be able to change the behavior of the DNS323 unless you have access to its SMB.CONF file.

Apparently, there are specific options that must be enabled in the SMB SERVER (your NAS) in order for Symlinks to be transparently followed by LINUX SMB Clients.

The Live product line is Linux based on Ubuntu, so this seems to be specifically applicable.

Back to your original problem, you *can* create a playlist which in essence allows you to do what you want (I.e. display files from both of your hard drives).

Adding

follow symlinks = yes
wide symlinks = yes
unix extensions = no

to my smb.conf seems to have done the trick. Thanks for pointing out the link to the solution.
