Unable to mount WDEX2 Ultra for Time Machine!

Dear all,

I have been attempting all weekend to get my Time Machine to mount or recognise MyCloud WDX2 Ultra. All I get is the dreaded window that says 'enter your password for the server ‘MYX2 Ultraso that time machine e can access it’. And it will not accept my user name and password or let me log-in as a guest.

I am guessing this is not a new issue! I have already raised a ticket with the WD people.

I am running Ventura on a MacBook Pro.

Thanks for any advice.

Best,

James

Well I think I may gave found a solution. I deleted the ‘sparse bundle’, then deleted all the apps and software that comes with the NAS, then reinstalled them all. Then removed and re-added the Time Machine as the preferred backup unit. It also seems to dislike further external hard drives to be attached when using Time Machine. Lots of trial and error. It does make one wonder why, with all the Mac users out there now, there is not a product specifically for OSX. And as Mac seem to update their software on a too regular basis (I have Ventura) it’s no wonder things fail to communicate, I also disabled the VPN and shields etc, and gawd knows what other things I messed around with. The test will come after the first backup is done, and whether I have to delete the 'sparcebundle" that is created. And let’s not forget whether I can get the thing to work should (good forbid) I need to use Time Machine due to a disk failure. What a big waste of time and effort!!

I’m not sure what you mean here, but I have several computers doing TimeMachine backups to an EX4100 share, each also with two attached SSD drives also doing TimeMachine backups. (Redundancy: Good.) The SSDs occasionally get rotated to off-site storage.

So TimeMachine is perfectly happy using local and remote targets, and I doubt that the remote target implementation is important (EX2Ultra vs EX4100).
