Unable to install programs from WD My Book Essential Drive

I recently purchased a 2TB My Book Essential USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 as a upgrade from my original 1 TB My Book drive.

I have several programs that I store and install from the external drive, but after moving the files from the 1TB to the 2TB drive, I am unable to run the setup.exe. It starts the install and then says the files cannot be found.

If I copy the folder from the 2 TB drive to the desktop, I can install the program with no problem.

I only installed the WD Drive Lock so I am guessing the may be the reason why, any suggestions?? I can’t even run the WD Smartware software install any longer.

Please advise

At times, it is not possible to run an Executable Program / Software directly from an External Hard Disk Drive, as the Operating System may need registry keys not found on External Media. It is best explained on the following thread:

On the other hand, if you are unable to run WD Smartware then perhaps reinstalling the Software on your Local Drive may allow it to work again, you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.
