Unable to connect to Shares on Vista PCs after FW Update 1.02.21

  • My 2 Windows Vista PCs in my home LAN are configured with a login account WITHOUT password, so PCs boot into desktop without any password prompting. After upgrading WDTVLIVE FW to 1.02.21 receive error response invalid user-id or password when trying to connect to Network Shares on those Vista PCs!!! I have reentered the user-id numerous times and also cleared the password field in WDTVLIVE - no success!!

I have no problem connecting to my NAS where I have set a userid/password combination!

Finally, had to roll back to FW 1.01.24 and instantly could connect to the Vista PC Shares again! Obviously, the new Firmware does connect to Network Shares with empty passwords. This is a major bug and should be corrected immediately.

Thanks.

I have no password on my network shares and connect OK with windows XP.

Too late now but it may be that you should have ‘reset to factory defaults’ after upgrading. This sometimes helps.

thanks for yr reply. Just to clarify my situation: The shares on my Vista PCs are password protected, thus a user-id is definitely required to connect, however, I have set no password for both login into the pc and any shares on the network. The latter does not work with the new firmware but with the prior version, therefore I think it is a bug which should be resolved asap.

I am facing exactly the same problem with WDTVLIVE FW to 1.02.21 and Windows Vista.

Until no password (it is empty) for Windows user I am not able to login to Network Share on my computer.

When I configured a password for my user, access to shared files is working properly at once.

It really looks like bug. TV Live wrongly establish connection when no password for Windows user.

Does anybody know how to solve it because I want to keep my Windows password blank?

Kindly advice.

Sounds to me like you have PASSWORD PROTECTED SHARING turned ON on your server?

Anyway, OFF or ON for password protected, I get the same results. I already tried both of them.

Note that Password Protected Sharing ON means that access is limited to person who has account on my machine, however, I have had account but with empty password so why I am not able to sign in?

In my opinion TV Live firmware does not login properly to Windows Vista when password is empty.

No, Password-protected sharing doesn’t control which USER account gets used, it means whether or not the user requires a Password when accessing SHARES.    If you turn password protected sharing ON, then the user account(s) must have Passwords.

Maybe, I am not Windows guru  but whatever that setting is, ON or OFF, I am not able to login when password is empty.

Have you tried turning off your windows password requirement. Then resetting your WDTV to factory defaults. After this attempt to connect using the default screen that comes up with user ‘anonymous’ and blank password. (don’t change a thing on this screen). What happens now.
